Rick Davenport

Funeral services for Rick Davenport, 60, of Custer, will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 10:00 A.M. at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain, SD. A prayer service will be held Friday at 7:00 P.M. with visitation beginning at 6:00 pm at the United Church of Christ in Chamberlain, SD. Burial will follow the funeral service at the Kennebec Cemetery in Kennebec, SD.

Ricky La Vern Davenport was born October 2, 1952 in Winner, South Dakota to La Vern and Pearl (Kindt) Davenport. Young in Rick’s life, Robert Kenobbie came to be the father of Pearl’s children. Rick’s childhood memories included Bob and Pearl’s family living in Oacoma, SD and Vermillion, SD. Rick grew up with Arlie, Faye, Darlys, Pam, and Bob playing all kinds of games and sports with the Missouri River in the background. Rick attended Reliance High School and graduated from Chamberlain High School in 1971. He married the love of his life Patricia Elizabeth Foster on July 26, 1975. To this union, they added Dolsee Joi in 1986 and Haley Layne in 1991. Rick’s life was built around his love for his wife, kids, family, friends and work. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers. Anyone who knew Rick knew how loyal to “the Pack” he truly was. Rick touched so many with his loving and generous heart. We love him dearly.

Rick will be remembered for his work ethic and commitment to the jobs he flourished at over the years. From his work at D & H Construction to the Peavey’s Lumberyard in Chamberlain, he continued with his construction expertise at Kennebec Coop Lumberyard and later built and managed the United Building Center in Chamberlain only to return to the small town atmosphere at Kennebec Lumber. Rick’s experience in construction among many other facets as a people person made him an expert as a fieldman/insurance adjustor for DeSmet Farm Mutual. He will be remembered for his eye for detail and explicit memory that could recall times, places, and events that is unmatched.

He was preceded in death by his mother Pearl Elaine (Kindt) Kenobbie, his sister Arlene Marie (Davenport) Kenobbie, grandparents Hugo and Mildred (Earl) Kindt, Uncle LeRoy and Aunt Jean (Kindt) Fries, his mother and father-in-law Albina and Arthur Foster, and Grandma Anna Kovanda.

Rick passed away near his home on February 25, 2013. Rick is survived by his wife Pat, daughters Dolsee and Haley, all from Custer; his dad Robert H. (Donna) Kenobbie of Platte, SD; sisters Fayrene (Davenport) Howard and her husband Leo of Millboro, SD; Darlys (Kenobbie) Roberts of Sheridan, WY; Pam (Kenobbie) Olesen and a brother Bob Kenobbie, both of Sioux Falls, SD; and sisters Monica (Davenport) Weischedel and her husband Chuck of Onida, SD; Twilla (Joe) Boyles of Lafayette, IN; Lindell Davenport of North Aurora, IL; brothers Vernon (Janet) Davenport of Somonauk, IL; Mickey (Chris) Davenport of St. Charles, IL; David (Janet) Davenport of Marshall, MI. “Uncle Rick” is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews who thought the world of him.
